The year 1992 was when Amanda Bossard began her research in marine biology at Anchorage from Alaska Pacific University. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999, when she was hired on board the ship F/V Sunset. This 65' schooner that was converted into a salmon tender was operated by Murat Aritan. Aritan has been involved in commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard, who is the wife of Aritan and has joined their teams to take over their respective industries. Both of them are the direction of preserving resources and maximizing the profits. In 2007, now a mother to two kids Bella aged 3 and Andre 1 Bossard before returning to her home in Philadelphia, opened a direct market wholesale distributor of seafood named Otolith. Its name is a sweet recall of her extensive fish biology knowledge and her husband's extensive involvement in the seafood industry often leaving them separated for five months or more as they work towards financial and environmental goals which reflect both their independence and commitment to their community wherever they live. Bossard and her children Andre 10, and Isabella 12 make their annual return in Southeast Alaska as deckhands to harvest wild salmon during summer. Hooks and lines are employed to capture their salmon and then join Aritan for local processors for a period of two months. They then continue to grow their direct seafood sale via Otolith Sustainable Seafood. Amanda Bossard works as an anchor/MMJ for News 12 Brooklyn and News 12 Bronx.
